THE SPIRIT OF THE HEDGEROW
£10 paperback, £4.31 Kindle Edition. Available from Amazon
The fact that you can bend down and pluck the leaf of a plant to relieve a headache or hay-fever is, to my mind, profound alchemy. In the past the wild plants of our hedgerows, fields and woodlands were honored and revered, but now we whiz past them on the motorway with no regard at all. Plants have healed us and been a part of our ceremonies and lives for thousands of years and deserve to be honored. That really is the point of this book - to help us fall in love with the plants of the hedgerow again.
There is fabulous folk lore hidden away in the hedgerow and forgotten details of history. Spirit of the Hedgerow follows the wild plants as they call attention to themselves throughout the year. Each month we focus on specific herbs their medical properties, offer remedies and recipes you can make at home, as well as some of the folk lore and magical practice associated with the plants featured that month.
In addition there is a brief explanation of the eight Celtic festivals of the year so that you may join in with the celebration of the turning of the seasons if you choose.
I am delighted to announce The Spirit of the Hedgerow is a finalist in the Wishing Shelf independent book awards.
